Food Licence Renewal
FEHD posts a renewal application form and guidance notes to the licensee about 4 months before the licence expires.
This applies to the general restaurant licence, the light refreshment restaurant licence and the factory canteen licence. Note: before renewing you must complete the annual fire and ventilation inspection and obtain a letter of no objection from the Fire Services Department.

Renewal timing and steps
- Renewal notice: FEHD posts a renewal application form and guidance notes to the licensee about 4 months before the licence expires. Even if no notice arrives, the licensee is still responsible for completing the renewal before the licence expires.
- Submit the application: submit the renewal application within the 4 months before the licence expires. Applying after the licence has expired is an offence; the existing licence is cancelled and you must apply afresh.
Documents needed
- Completed licence renewal application form (form FEHB 101A)
- Copy of a valid Business Registration Certificate (BR)
- Copy of the applicant’s identity document
- Copy of the current restaurant licence
- Fire Services Department letter of no objection (must be obtained before renewal)
Government fees for renewal
For full licences covering premises up to 100 m², the standard annual renewal fees are:
- General restaurant: HK$2,520.
- Light refreshment restaurant: HK$1,810.
- Factory canteen: HK$2,710.
Larger premises fall into higher area bands.
These are government charges, separate from our consultancy fee.
Approval criteria
- Licensing conditions: whether the conditions listed on the licence are still being met
- Building structural safety: whether there are unauthorised structures or unapproved alterations
- Fire installations: whether equipment is in working order and has passed the annual inspection
- Environmental hygiene record: any major hygiene prosecutions or complaints in the past
- Site inspection: FEHD officers make unannounced inspections to confirm there are no breaches
