Siu Mei and Lo Mei Shop Licence
The siu mei and lo mei shop licence only allows retail of siu mei and lo mei supplied by a licensed food factory or another lawful source.
The siu mei and lo mei shop licence does not cover production. It only lets the licensee sell the food and handle reheating; making siu mei or lo mei on site is strictly not allowed. Many cha chaan tengs, siu mei shops, fast-food shops, supermarkets and even Chinese restaurants simply buy in their stock, and a siu mei and lo mei shop licence is enough for them to sell it.

Siu mei and lo mei shop licence questions
Does a siu mei and lo mei shop licence mean I can make them?
No. A siu mei and lo mei shop licence only lets you sell, not make. Production covers much more and is usually done at scale in industrial buildings, then supplied wholesale to restaurants and supermarkets for simple retail. If you want to set up a production workshop, contact us and we will follow up on the details.
What if I want to make my own siu mei and lo mei (production and retail)?
You need a separate food factory licence. Or, if the premises are large enough to sell fresh or frozen meat, you can apply for both a fresh provision shop licence and a siu mei and lo mei shop licence and run the two businesses separately. The siu mei and lo mei shop part must then be separated from the rest of the building by a brick wall up to the ceiling, with its own entrance facing the street.
